About me and my creative interests

My Name is Thomas Bessant a soon to be Commercial photography student at Penryn University ever since my 3rd year of college which was Penwith college I did my first Advert making for Audi it was one of my first ever projects I worked so hard on and soon realised I had an interest a hobby out of advertising my teachers soon helped me figure out how to pursue my hobby by applying for Commercial Photography courses to further improve my knowledge and skill in the advertising world and to become better with camera usage and studio work at the campus, I only hope that with the years I have on the course to gain something out of all the work I do alongside others and By myself and to find future work with the knowledge I gain from my course and my lecturers, I take quite of inspiration from local commercial photographers and some based in the UK.

My Work for Verdant Brewery

These shots were taken during me and my class's first time in the studio down in the industrial area of Penryn during this time we were taught about how to shoot beer shots and such, I was doing a beer pour/beer in a glass shoot the process to do this was more steps than you ever realise we had to find the right ISO the right lighting in the studio at the time my camera wasn't Available so I used a teachers camera, we focused on lighting and flash to find a mode which didn't look to bright nor too dark something that looked good to us it did take a while but we found the right settings taking many photos but these 4 were my personal favourites, there was many things I wished I done differently like positions and such but what I got is good.

This was a photoshoot of the verdant brewery merch I think it was the day after the first shoot the creative decisions I was going for on this shoot was a cinematic shoot a grey blurry background to give that factory look it was something I saw from old 2000's adverts of cars and such so I wanted to somehow recreate it but the other thing i wanted to recreate was like an stage opening with a spotlight shining on the shirt like it was a main character of the play showing the logo bright and being the first thing the viewers see as it is the only thing bright in the shoot and 2 of those photos came out exactly how I wanted it to come out and I'm glad it came out the way it did.

this shoot was also on the same day as the merch shoot this one was more rushed than I realised but my partner Harry during that time had a great planning we decided for the lightbulb cans we needed a wallpaper to fit the colour theme of the cans which was yellow, green and white the other thing we had to decide on was the angling and the amount of mist to use to make the cans look like it just came out of a fridge or a cooler, due to my camera being a Nikon D80 it was old so lighting was not great but on the 4th image the idea was there vibrant flowers, vibrant label it was everything and I had it all planned out to use a light to keep that spotlight effect on the can as mist ran down it giving it that "Fresh" effect I wanted and it came out better than it looked on the day I did it the only thing I wished i did was to make it a tiny bit brighter so the full label is visible.

these were my digital work after doing all the studio work this time it was Microscopy and the Gif which I planned for a week to do, the Microscopy was very new to me but seeing how the lecturer tell and show us how to do  certain things like water droplets and water mixing and Microscope work relating to a verdant theme like lightbulb which is green and Psych which is pinkish red because you want your work to relate to the theme of the drinks your advertising because if the theme is different than the label its gonna make people confused, for the gif I had an idea of a Magician on a stage idea having all ingredients under the verdant merch hat  even a can with no label then when a hat comes down the drink magically appears as the lightbulb drink, the way I did this was to use a string to lift the hat up and down and taking photos each second giving it a stop motion feel I even used a red lighting background which was a light with a red see through cover over it giving it that stage look which I wanted and personally it came out way better than intended.
